johnhwatson- said: Hi dear, I just saw you talking to some people about Online livestreaming the other day and you seemed to know quite a bit about it (well, a fair bit more than me at least!) so I was wondering if you could recommend anywhere decent to stream Sherlock live on the 1st? It's just so tough to find somewhere that's actually reliable that I thought it might come better with a recommendation! Thank you so much for any help you can give and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas ♥

Hi Jess, yes I’ve been using VPN to unlock region blocked services. There are free VPNs but usually with limits(change password every 30 min, etc). My friend just bought one month VPN services from http://hidemyass.com/vpn/ , the connection is great(enough for streaming iplayer) and it has tons of IP locations for users to choose. Plus, it has a 30 day money back guarantee.

Hidemyass is like the most popular VPN provider but there are other fairly good providers too, like StrongVPN. Below are some VPN reviews websites, hope it’s helpful. Also look out for good holiday deals:D

VPN is not so complex to set up, google “how to set up VPN  for windows/mac”. If you’re still confused, feel free to ask me. I will see if I can write up a tutorial.

And here are several ip masking software I’ve used, all tested working for streaming iplayer. Their mechanism is the same as VPN but you don’t have to set up VPN manually. Just install the software and it’s ready to use:

Expat Shield http://expatshield.com/ Most popular UK VPN service, completely free. Ads can be blocked using browser addons such as Adblock Plus for Firefox.

LibertyHero https://libertyhero.com/ Can sign up free accounts but with 512kb speed limit (may or may not be enough for iplayer, it depends on your ISP connection and whether it’s peak hours or not).

iPrivo http://iprivo.com/ It used to work for me, but not anymore…IDK why.

Tunnelbear http://www.tunnelbear.com/ Another popular one, but from what I heard it has 500mb bandwidth limit per month, but they allow people to go on their twitter to ask for extensional quota.

EasyHideIP http://www.easy-hide-ip.com/ This program is brilliant, great speed, many IP loactions, however not free. It has a 3 day free trial though. Can be an alternative for one episode, I guess.

ETA: HideIPVPN http://www.hideipvpn.com/ has a 3 hour free trial. That’s enough for streaming the 1.5 hour Sherlock. Just set up an account like 30 min before Sherlock starts.

ETA2: Stealthy https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stealthy/ A firefox add-on, free. I’ve heard it’s working for other people. No luck for me though.

That’s what I can think of for now. I know there are other options so if anyone has any more, please add.

BTW, I really don’t recommend TVPC.com. It’s really…laggy, therefore not so reliable. Better have a backup plan.

And happy holidays to you too!
